Emergency aid and village reconstruction

A devastating earthquake occurred in the western Himalayas on the morning of October 8, 2005. Places like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Muzaffarabad, Uri, Baramula and Sri Nagar suffered extensive damage. Several thousands of people died, and more than 80% of the houses in Uri and Handwara either collapsed or underwent extensive damage.

In January 2001 an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 hit the northwest of India. In the aftermath, three million people remained homeless. According to official government statistics, more than 330,000 houses were destroyed and over 750,000 heavily damaged. The catastrophe had enormous social and economic impact on the affected population.

Earthquake rehabilitation in Maharastra, Matola

Support of the Shanti Avedna Hospice

Around Mumbai, many cancer patients are not properly taken care of. Most of them are elderly individuals without any family. In the Shanti Avedna centre, they receive proper treatment, regardless of their religion or caste. The hospice is unique in the region. Most of the patients are in the final stage of illness; many of them do not have the means for proper treatment to slow down the disease.
